Section 3: Babylonian writings

Tablet three of the eleven tablets details with Gilgamesh's mother before leaving to slay Humbaba. Gilgamesh's mother's name is Ninsun is upset about the ordeal and the citizens urge Gilgamesh not to go. Gilgamesh (According to the epic, as all of this is.) eventually gains Ninsun's blessing and heads off on a long journey to slay the demon.

Assignment

Read tablet three of the epic of Gilgamesh and answer the following questions.

1.) Who is the father of Shamash according to this epic?

2.) Name four Babylonian gods and provide at least one example why they are much weaker compared to The GOD of The Bible.

3.) So far in the story has Gilgamesh shown any real and sincerer love for any deity? Or used them as his strength? How is this different then The Bible which constantly contains themes of love for GOD and therefore obedience towards His commands, with people who say lines such as "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song." (Psalm 28:7)
